(A letter to me from a beloved author.)
I know you often quote the phrase “omit unnecessary words” from my book The Elements of Style.
Then you may be interested in knowing that I am also leveraging my position of stature in children’s literature by suggesting revisions, such as “Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep.” Period. There’s no need to add “and doesn’t know where to find them.” That, I believe, is clearly established in the first sentence.
