Jesus Christ, Supertarfish

by Mark Morelli

I had a really weird dream last night.

I dreamed I was walking along the beach with God.

Over the horizon, in the distant sky, I could see the formations of clouds and stars depicting scenes from my life.

For every special moment, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand.

One set was mine.

The other set of footprints belonged to God.

When the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that so often during my life there was only one set of footprints.

I also noticed that it happened during those times in my life when I was most despondent.

This really irked me, so I questioned God. I said:

"O Divine Master, you said that if I would just follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that at the worst times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. How could you leave me when I needed you the most?"

God said, " My dear child, I love you and would never leave you. During troubled times, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

I noticed then that there was just the print of one single foot in the sand. The single print made erratic impressions in the sand, each one pointing in a different direction.

I was puzzled. God, who sees all things, noticed and said:

"Oh, that . . . yeah, that's when I stepped on a friggin' jellyfish."
